Tara and Sam
I completed Winkie's 6 week puppy training course with my young whippet Sam. He's my first dog and I felt I needed some direction and advice regarding bringing up my dog to be a well behaved, sociable boy who could co-habit harmoniously with my cat.
Simply, Winkie's course was brilliant! The class was kept deliberately small to enable lots of one to one time and we found her advice invaluable. We really benefited from Winkie's experience and knowledge and were able to discuss behavioural issues as they cropped up over the weeks which was extremely helpful. As a result I'm pleased to report that as well as learning the puppy training essentials, myself, Sam and Jack are all living very happily together. I have and will continue to recommend Winkie to all I know. She's absolutely fantastic!
Ali and Leo
Winkie is the best thing that ever happened to me and my dog! Winkie is one of a very few trainers who works as an evidence based practitioner - the difference between her and other dog trainers I have employed in the past is that Winkie continually modifies her approach according to latest canine research/practices. Others merely use handed down tips - much of which is already dated (eg. the myth that we need to 'dominate' our dogs).
Winkie has helped me immensely with every single aspect of owning a dog. She loves all dogs and all animals from the heart, and by attending her classes I have seen amazing changes in my own dog, with his fear based insecurities, and those of my friends…I say this from my heart: if you love your dog - please, please, please give Winkie a try.
Lloyd, Harriet and Pedro
After spending several months looking for 'the perfect puppy', my partner Harriet and I ended up instead rehoming a 7 year old, 3 legged rescue lurcher called Pedro. He was very shut down when he first arrived and didn't seem to want to engage with us at all. Outside he would bark and lunge at every dog he saw and seemed completely unable to relax in any situation.
At a total loss as to how to handle this situation, we called Winkie and our lives have been changed ever since. It was a steep learning curve at first, but we're so glad we didn't take the 'quick fix' route offered by other trainers - our bond with Pedro has grown all the stronger for it and he is now a delightful, engaging and loving companion who we couldn't be without. Winkie's common sense, natural and kind methods made us and Pedro feel immediately comfortable and we relish our Saturday social walks with Pedro's new found doggy friends!
Garry, Celina and Monty
We contacted Winkie when we could not handle our adolescent Springer x Collie. Winkie demonstrated and discussed ways for us to channel Monty’s bounding energy in a positive way. We were in awe as Monty quickly became a calmer and happier dog. Winkie helped us with our confidence in meeting Monty’s needs and greatly reduced the frequency of his anxious behaviours. We continue attending the social walks. Not only are they highly enjoyable - they are inspiring. We always learn something new, whether it’s to do with our own handling/communication, our dog’s reaction, learning from other dogs/owners, new approaches, games, coping mechanisms, impulse control…and much more! They are progressively developing us as well as our dog each week. Winkie and her team have a gracious, holistic way of dealing with people and dogs, approaching situations with appropriate delicacy and tact, while respecting how dogs and owners vary as individuals. Winkie, Caroline, and Harriet – Monty, Garry and I are continuously grateful.
