Leo's story

As a first time dog owner - I owe a heartfelt thanks to Winkie for showing me the light! Before I found Winkie - me and Leo, my gorgeous 2 year old bull-mastiff, attended 2 different traditional Kennel club organised Dog Schools in Wandsworth. As I look back at them now, I feel sad that I was taught to do such harsh things to Leo as a puppy: including 'checking' him with a check chain, pinning him to the floor, and applying a spray collar for his fear of Alsatians! 

Since joining Winkie's classes, and abandoning the above harsh rubbish in favour of her kind and humane techniques - the relationship between me and Leo has improved a hundred fold, for which I can never thank Winkie enough! I can really see the depth and wisdom of her approach which is 100% kind to dogs, and positive reward-based, rather than punitive. In addition I am highly impressed by her holistic approach (which has provided an infinitely preferably solution to the problem of Leo jumping up on me in excitement - rather than poking him in the chest for it - like a certain popular TV dog trainer would advise!!) One of the things I have noticed is that there is little unbiased advice out there about dog nutrition, thus I am grateful for the excellent advice on nutrition given during classes (I can't believe the tinned rubbish I was feeding Leo before attending her classes. As they say - 'you are what you eat'!) Finally, having recently completed a degree in biochemistry at the University of London, I know the emphasis nowadays is on 'evidence based'  research, thus I was highly impressed to find that Winkie has the courage to teach the latest evidence based scientific techniques rather than continuing to advocate the harsh 'dominance' based rubbish that Leo was subjected to before we came to you. Keep up the excellent work Winkie. Don't know what I’d do without you.
